After a disastrous start of the season, losing their first 3 matches, Newport 2nd's recovered 
winning 10 of their next 11 games to haul themselves back in the SEWCL Div.2 promotion race. 

Going into the final game of the season they were in 3rd place with a must win game against 
Rogerstone (A) to finish the season. In order to gain promotion they had to win, whilst their 
rivals, Miskin Manor 3 points ahead, failing to win.

Newport did their job, winning by 9 wkts, but a tense wait turned to joyous celebrations as 
they heard the Miskin Manor game had been abandoned due to heavy rain.
